5 Easy Steps to Get Your Driver’s License in Dallas, Texas

Driver’s License in Dallas: If you live in Dallas, Texas, you know that a driver’s license is a ticket to freedom. The big city has a lot to see, and with a driver’s license, you can explore all that it has to offer. Here’s what any teen or adult needs to know about how to get their driver’s license in Dallas, TX.

1. What to Bring to Get a Dallas Driver License

Before you get started, there are some basics you should have ready to go before you finally apply for your license. When you go to the DMV, you’ll need:

  • Proof of US citizenship

  • Proof of Texas residency

  • Proof of Identity

  • Proof of your Social Security number

  • Proof of Insurance

  • Proof of Vehicle registration

  • Driver’s license application

Look at the forms of proof here that the Texas Department of Public Safety requires, so you can make sure you have all the right paperwork ready when it’s time to go.

2. Take the Required Texas Driver’s Ed for a Driver’s License in Dallas

If you are at least 15 and under the age of 18, you’ll need to complete a teen driver education course and then apply for a learner’s license. This is a 32-hour class that teaches you all you need to know about navigating Texas roads.

People over 18 but under 25 just need a six-hour adult driver’s ed course. And if you’re over 25, driver education is required, but recommended.

3. Take The Impact Texas Driver Course

If you are 24 years old or younger and took a teen driver or parent-taught driver’s ed course, you’ll need to take the Impact Texas Driver course. It’s a free two-hour informational course designed to help you understand the dangers of distracted driving. If you are 18-24 or older and took an adult driver’s ed course, you will take the one-hour Impact Texas Young Drivers course.

4. Going to the Dallas DMV

At the DMV, you’ll pay an application fee, provide thumbprints, pass a vision exam, and have your photo taken. If you’re over 18, you can pass a driving road test to get your license. And then you’ll be legal on Dallas roads!

But if you’re under 18, you won’t take the driving test just yet. First, you’ll get a learner license.

5. Fulfill Learner License Requirements

You must hold a learner’s license for at least six months before you can apply for your driver’s license. But if you turn 18 before the six months expires, you can apply for a driver’s license at that time.

If you are 16 or 17 years old and have held a learner’s license for six months, you can apply for a provisional driver’s license. Before you do that, you also need to complete the behind-the-wheel portion of driver education. That includes:

  • Seven hours of watching an instructor demonstrate driving techniques

  • Seven hours of behind-the-wheel experience where you demonstrate the instructor-taught techniques

  • 30 hours of practice with a 21-year-old driver in the vehicle; 10 hours must be done at night

Once you do all this, you can return to the Dallas DMV to take your driving test and snag your driver’s license.

With these tips, getting your Dallas driver’s license will be easy. And if you need to fulfill your education requirements for your Texas driver’s license, roaddocuments.com is a convenient and easy way to do i
